The
NCE DCC control system is not only very easy to understand but also to operate with as
well. The KVRR uses both the Radio and Non-Radio Tethered Cabs. Both cabs are basically
the same. The major difference between the two is the tethered cab gains its power through
the throttle cable, which must be plugged into the cab RJ11 port. The tethered cabs are
alive and active as soon as you plug it in. There is no on/off switch.
The
Radio Cab is battery powered and must be physically turned on to operate. To turn the
Radio Cab on, simply slide the on/off switch located on the right side of the cab to the
upper position.
The
Radio Link LED on the very top of the cab will start flashing rapidly indicating
communication between the Radio Cab and the Command Station is established. To turn the Radio Cab off, slide the on/off switch
down.
To
gain control of a locomotive, while holding the throttle in a vertical position, at about
shoulder height, simply press and hold the SELECT
LOCO button and hold for a slow 10011002 count (2 seconds). The red
STATUS LED in the upper left front of the cab will come on. Enter each digit of the locomotives number.
You will notice after pressing each digit key and holding for a slow 1001 1002
count (2 seconds), the red STATUS LED will flash off and then on. After
entering the last digit of the locomotives number, press the ENTER
button, (holding it in for about 2 seconds) the STATUS LED will go off. At
this point, turn the throttle knob slightly to the right until the locomotive just begins
to move. You now have control of your
locomotive.
If
this is not the case, while using a Radio Cab, plug a throttle cable into the bottom of
your cab and proceed to gain control as described above. Using the throttle cable with a
Radio Cab turns the Radio off, but not the Cab. Unplugging the cable automatically turns
the Radio back on.
After
you have gained control of a locomotive, the numbered buttons (0 through 9), become
Function Keys. Pressing the zero key (Function 0) will turn on or off the
headlights if the locomotive is so equipped.
With
DCC the decoder is programmed so that the locomotive (or consist) will always move forward
when the FWD forward button is pushed and in reverse when the REV reverse button is pushed. This
holds true no matter which way the locomotive is facing.
The
OPTION button, a direction toggle, will change the direction of the locomotive
in addition to the FWD forward and REV reverse buttons on the face
of the cab.
All
of the radio cabs have been modified with an additional white push button switch on the
upper left side of the cab. With this modification, you will be able to control the
direction and speed, (without looking at the cab for the buttons), with your thumb while
holding the cab in your left hand leaving their right hand to do other functions. With
respect to those left-handed, they use their right index finger to control direction while
using their thumb for speed control.
After
you gained control of a locomotive, the numbered buttons (0 through 9), become
Function Keys. Pressing the zero key (Function 0) will turn on or off the
lights if the locomotive is so equipped.
Consist Conventions' for Power Units, such as an A-B-B-A, A-B-A or A-A F-unit
sets, are permanently consisted together. The addresss of the consist is the lead
locomotives serial number. The lead locomotive is the locomotive that has a
headlight.
